Welcome

At Boys & Girls Clubs of St. John’s we are all about kids. We recognize that every young person has the potential to fulfill their hopes and dreams. Our goal is to help them get there. For over 60 years we have been offering a variety of programs and services designed to meet the needs of local children, youth and their families. We give them opportunities to discover, develop and achieve their true potential every day by engaging them in activities that stimulate and challenge their mind, body and spirit.

Operating from two locations Buckmaster’s Circle and H.G.R Mews Centre on Mundy Pond Road, our staff and volunteers act as positive role models and provide a warm environment where children and youth are encouraged to be the best they can be. That’s why Boys & Girls Clubs of St. John’s is so important. We have been a home away from home for young people in St. John’s since 1946. Our caring environment enables over 750 children and youth every year to learn and develop the skills they need for life.

We invite you to explore our website to get a sense of our history, our vision and all the programs and activities that we have developed (and continue to develop) that realize our vision every day.

The Cup Stops Here

The morning of Tuesday, August 20th started like any other day but the children and youth from our Mundy Pond and Buckmaster's Circle Summer Day Camps were about to get the experience of a lifetime for any hockey fan. Before Michael Ryder was scheduled to bring the Stanley Cup to his home town of Bonavista for thousands to see, he made a surprise visit to the Boys and Girls Clubs to say hello. The visit was kept under wraps so the surprise and excitement in the room when Mr. Ryder and the Stanley Cup made their entrance was palpable. Also in attendance were other camps from the community, Camp Sport Explore and Buckmaster's Circle Community Centre. This was a memorable way to end the Summer Day Camp season for everyone!

A New Club for Buckmasters Circle

The Boys and Girls Club of St. John’s officially opened the Suncor Energy/Buckmaster’s Circle Boys and Girls Club on June 1st 2010. The facility was built thanks in part to significant investments from Suncor Energy and the City of St. John’s.

“When we embarked on this partnership two years ago, we knew this project had great potential,” says Alan Brown, Vice President, East Coast, Suncor Energy. “It’s incredible to see the finished project, and realize the positive impact a facility like this can have on a community. We are very proud to be a part of this outstanding initiative.”

“This fantastic facility which serves the boys and girls of our City is a true testament of the great success of these types of partnerships, says Mayor Dennis O’Keefe. “We congratulate all partners and sponsors of this project and look forward to long lasting relationships with all to ensure our youth are always being considered as they are the future to our communities.”

For the past 15 years, the Boys and Girls Club facility in Buckmaster’s Circle was housed in a much older and far smaller building. Inaccessible for individuals with disabilities, the facility could not accommodate as many children who wanted to attend.

“That’s all changed now”, says Michael Feaver, President of the Boys and Girls Club of St. John’s Board of Directors. “Our new facility is bright and open, and can accommodate all youth who want to be a member. In fact, since the doors opened in March, our membership has jumped 129 percent, including many teenagers, who weren’t joining at our previous facility.”

The new facility also received support from the VOCM Cares Foundation, Sears Canada, the St. John’s Lions Club, Renee Antle-Marquis, as well as joint funding from the provincial and federal governments. It features a computer lab, games room, teen room, dancing studio and craft room, as well as a number of quiet study areas for students.
