Welcome

At Boys & Girls Clubs of St. John’s we are all about kids. We recognize that every young person has the potential to fulfill their hopes and dreams. Our goal is to help them get there. For over 60 years we have been offering a variety of programs and services designed to meet the needs of local children, youth and their families. We give them opportunities to discover, develop and achieve their true potential every day by engaging them in activities that stimulate and challenge their mind, body and spirit.

Operating from two locations Buckmaster’s Circle and H.G.R Mews Centre on Mundy Pond Road, our staff and volunteers act as positive role models and provide a warm environment where children and youth are encouraged to be the best they can be. That’s why Boys & Girls Clubs of St. John’s is so important. We have been a home away from home for young people in St. John’s since 1946. Our caring environment enables over 750 children and youth every year to learn and develop the skills they need for life.

We invite you to explore our website to get a sense of our history, our vision and all the programs and activities that we have developed (and continue to develop) that realize our vision every day.

Smiling Land Foundation Donates Van to Boys and Girls Clubs of St. John's

The Club was one of two gift recipients in 2011and received a much needed van to assist in allowing members to have more opportunities to get around to a variety of activities.

"With the addition of the new passenger van, Smiling Land Foundation has helped the Club move to the next level of providing quality programs fo rthe kids in our community. Not only will it eliminate transportation as a barrier for a child to attend Club in the critical after school hours, it will also allow us to incorporate more field trip opportunities for all our kids" said Kelly Sandoval, Executive Director. "The positive impact of this will be huge and we are very grateful"

Smiling Land Foundation consists of five ordinary people with extraordinary plans and hearts to match. The Foundation' Board of Directors consists of Paul Sparkes, Jennifer Bishop, Chris Henley, Jen Power, and Tim Powers- all proud Newfoundland & Labradorians who have come together for a common cause- to give back! The Foundation strives to spread Canada's warm and welcoming East Coast culture and spirit through the Rockin' Big Give fundraiser in support of a different Newfoundland & Labrador charity each year. This one-of-a-kind kitchen party held each December in Toronto is guaranteed to provide a unique cultural experience.

On June 15th, the staff of Astra Zeneca came to the Buckmaster's Circle unit as part of their yearly Community Connection Day. We were delighted to welcome them back again this year as they set out to transform our front entrance area into a beautiful garden. This was an ambitious project but the crew of Astra Zeneca worked tirelessly and the results are amazing. Now it is the job of our young member's to help water and care for the new garden and they are happy to do so. Astra Zeneca is a Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada National Sponsor.

The Cup Stops Here

The morning of Tuesday, August 20th started like any other day but the children and youth from our Mundy Pond and Buckmaster's Circle Summer Day Camps were about to get the experience of a lifetime for any hockey fan. Before Michael Ryder was scheduled to bring the Stanley Cup to his home town of Bonavista for thousands to see, he made a surprise visit to the Boys and Girls Clubs to say hello. The visit was kept under wraps so the surprise and excitement in the room when Mr. Ryder and the Stanley Cup made their entrance was palpable. Also in attendance were other camps from the community, Camp Sport Explore and Buckmaster's Circle Community Centre. This was a memorable way to end the Summer Day Camp season for everyone!
